Audiencia en la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, San José-Costa Rica

El Dr. Alejandro Ponce Villacís viajó durante los días viernes 3 y sabado 4 de julio a la ciudad de San José en Costa Rica, para asistir a una Audiencia privada del caso Suárez Rosero vs. Estado Ecuatoriano; en relación del incumplimiento de la Sentencia por parte del Estado Ecuatoriano.
El caso Suárez Rosero fue el primero en contra de la República del Ecuador ante la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos.

3rd. PERUVIAN INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION CONGRESS TOOK PLACE IN LIMA

On April the 29 th and 30 of 2009, Carlos Manosalvas Silva anda Juan Esteban Ponce Villacís attorneys from our law firm assited to the “III Congreso Internacional de Arbitraje” at Lima – Perú. Various matters were discussed in the Congreso such as Comercial and Investment Arbitration. Likewise they kept several meetings from wich they would possibly establish laboral relation with “Rosselló Atorneys” an important law firm al Lima – Peru.

Human Rights Academy, Washington College Law, American University

During May and June, María Cristina Ponce Villacís, member of our firm, attended the Human Rights Academy of Washington College of Law at the American University. During her stay she attended some panels and conferences given by judges of the International Court of Justice, International Penal Court, and Inter-American Court of Human Rights, by representatives of the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, and by special reporters of the United Nations, among other personalities in the international area of human rights. Some of said speakers are also professors at the Academy.

Chevron Corporation and Texaco Petroleum Company

In the arbitration case filed by Chevron Corporation and Texaco Petroleum Company against the Ecuadorian State for the violation of the Bilateral Investment Treatment subscribed between Ecuador and the United States of America, from April 20 through April 28, 2009 it took place the hearing on the merits in Washington, D.C.

The team of lawyers from Quevedo & Ponce that attended the hearing was formed by: Dr. Alejandro Ponce Martínez, Ana Belén Posso, and María Daniela Román.

Rules for the application of Decision 608 of the Andean Community of Nations

Last March, Rafael Correa Delgado, President of the Republic, subscribed the Executive Decree No. 1614, published in March 27, 2009, in Official Gazette No. 558.

The above mentioned Executive Decree establishes the application of Decision 608 of the Andean Community Commission. Taking into account that the National Congress has not yet approved the Competence Law, this Decision will be the legal framework established in the meantime in order to regulate free competence, so as to avoid prejudicial or counter-productive behavior of economic operators against it.
