II International Day-Conferences of the Ecuadorian Academy of Intellectual Property. - Guayaquil, September 30 and October 1

Dr. Roque Albuja Izurieta, attorneys Roque Albuja Ponce, Miguel Vargas and Christian Anchaluisa, judicial agent of the trademarks and patents division of our law firm, attended the II International Day-Conferences of the Academy. Leading professionals in the area of intellectual property, such as Delia Lipszyc, Ricardo Antequera Parilli and Carlos Fernández Ballesteros attended the event. Some innovative topics were covered such as: Brands in Soccer, in terms of corporate branding. It was matter of discussion how often times the team’s image does not rely on the brand but on a specific player (as is the case of Cristiano Ronaldo).
Another highlighted topic was the issue of legal protection of three-dimensional brands and P2P file sharing in light of copyright. These two subjects were very interesting given the wide-ranging international casuistry presented by Dr. Antequera to illustrate the point. Also noteworthy – on behalf of our Office - Dr. Roque Albuja Izurieta presented on the Criminal Regime of Intellectual Property in Ecuador, a topic commonly not addressed in this kind of event.
